A data-driven Reynolds-number-dependent model for turbulent mean flow prediction in circular jets

چکیده

This paper proposes a data-driven turbulence model for predicting the mean flow in turbulent circular jets over wide range of Reynolds numbers (Re). The main formulation is adapted from well-known k–ε (where k kinetic energy, and ε dissipation rate) with set Re-dependent variation constants. Tam–Thies correction applied constants optimized using data assimilation based on ensemble Kalman filter to minimize deviation between prediction experimental data. converging at Re = 10 700, 20 100, 95 500 are fitted logarithmic curves respect obtain universal jet under various conditions. constants, named k–ε–Re model, can accurately predict both orifice Re. While directly pipe jets, much better be obtained high (Re ≥ 21 000 presently) compared default model. However, certain discrepancy observed 5 ≤ x/D 15 6000 16 000. Further improvement achieved by assimilating fitting coefficients adequately generalizable different moderate or (≥ 000), while further recalibration specific nozzle type small

Structure and dynamics of low Reynolds number turbulent pipe flow.

Using large-scale numerical calculations, we explore the proper orthogonal decomposition of low Reynolds number turbulent pipe flow, using both the translational invariant (Fourier) method and the method of snapshots. Each method has benefits and drawbacks, making the 'best' choice dependent on the purpose of the analysis. Owing to its construction, the Fourier method includes all the flow fiel...

Circular Polarization in Turbulent Blazar Jets

Circular polarization (CP) provides an invaluable probe into the underlying plasma content of relativistic jets. CP can be generated within the jet through a physical process known as linear birefringence. This is a physical mechanism through which initially linearly polarized emission produced in one region of the jet is attenuated by Faraday rotation as it passes through other regions of the ...

Reynolds number effects in stratified turbulent wakes

We report large-eddy simulations of the turbulent wake of a towed-sphere of diameter D at speed U in a linearly stratified Boussinesq fluid with buoyancy frequency N . These simulations are performed using a spectral-multidomain-penalty-method-based incompressible Navier-Stokes solver for Re ≡ UD/ν ∈ {5 × 10, 10, 4 × 10} and Fr ≡ 2U/(ND) ∈ {4, 16, 64}. Increasingly richer turbulent fine structu...
